As someone who has been using a Walmart/Green Dot Visa for the past 2 years, the only disadvantage I've come across is the ability to cash personal checks think I get about twice a year. I went to aces previously and wasn't very happy they called my 85 year old grandmother in addition to calling her bank. I understand verifying the funds with the bank, especially bc it's a local out-of-stat bank...but is it really necessary to call my grandmother before she's even received a thank you card? It sounds like some kind of scam when an out of state area code calls and says "good afternoon I'm calling from a check cashing place that's not affiliated with a bank to verify a check and get your authorization to cash it." It's a hassle I'm glad to know D.C. is willing to forego if everything seems legitimate to them. Both the lady on the phone and the man who authorized the check to be cashed were very helpful and friendly. I definitely recommend them, especially for this service and will be back any Christmas or birthday.
