We thought about doing credit card processing a few years ago and gave up after reading of all the horror stories relating to predatory business practices in that industry. We continued to accept payments only by cash and check (as we have been doing for a really long time). Recently, we noticed that our younger customers don't carry much cash and some of them seemed unfamiliar with the idea of a check. Reluctantly, we redid our research and with the help of Merchant Maverick, we found Helcim. What a relief!We've been working with them for about 6 months now and it has been a true pleasure. They provide accurate practical information, do what they say they will do, and have terms and conditions that you'd be willing to impose on your beloved grandmother. The terms are rational and reasonable. The fees are low for the service and the response to questions is quick, kind, patient, and accurate. Essentially, they are entitled to wear the white hat in an industry dominated by disgusting predators on whom only a black hat seems appropriate attire. If you are considering credit card processing for the first time, do yourself a favor and research Helcim. Call them and speak with someone for a while, Read the agreements. If you are still on the fence, compare them with any of their competitors. If you've been stuck with something in a black hat, realize that there is an alternative and its probably worth the effort to switch.My cynicism has been increasing the longer I live. It has been really refreshing to find a group of people that seems to believe there is a better way.
