A perfect marriage of wilderness and luxury - dancing endlessly between mossy trails and soft bathrobes, cold kayaking and a wood fired hot tub, endless green scenery and the hypnotic comfort of a private fire, very high-end service, food and wine selections and personable staff and owners.

We booked a 3 nights stay with the expectation to be re-vitalised by nature and were prepared for a non-active stay by pre-loaded ebooks and Netflix. Not only were we pampered by nature with the professional complimentary activities (nature walks, kayaking, amazing star gazing, etc.) next to the protected Tobeatic Wilderness, our senses continue to be stimulated over the gastronomic dinner with its ambiance, sight, sense and taste. The wide selection of wines (guided by a sommelier) and the food (with daily different choices and course) pampered us beyond nature. We'll need to stay longer next time for sufficient time for my ebooks and Netflix.This place and its friendly service throughout is truely unique and totally worth the 3 hours drive from Halifax!

There are 2 different ways to arrive at the lodge. We took the more desolate route. It is about 30 - 45 minutes from the town of Shelburne along this route in which we came across two bear cubs on the road. We arrived late in the evening around 9 PM. The lodge is in the middle of the forest so you have to travel down a dirt road to reach it. We were greeted promptly with a glass of wine. The lodge is decorated nicely. We sat outside by the fire pit. It was a little buggy and it would have been nice if the citronella candle torches were lit. We wanted to use the jacuzzi but it was not available because they had cleaned it and the water was not warm enough. We went to bed around 11:30 and to our surprise our room was filled with bugs. At first, we thought they would not bother us but they flew into our mouths and landed on our body while sleeping so I kept the light on in the bathroom. This helped the problem somewhat but it was difficult to sleep with the light. In addition, there were several cobwebs in the room with spiders. Spiders build nests where there are bugs so this seems to be an issue in this room.In addition, it was hot in the room so we kept the fan on but this caused another issue - the fan kept making constant noises; keeping us awake all night. Due to the bugs and the noisy fan, it was not a tranquil night and we slept very little. In the morning, I noticed that the screens on the windows had gaps between them and the window pane, and I believe this is why there were so many bugs in the room as evident in the picture. The management told me that they are aware of these gaps. It is due to the expansion and contraction of the wood. Okay, so why isn't there a solution since we are paying so much money to stay there? A simple solution is to seal the gaps with the following: Scotch 1.88 in. x 54.6 yds. Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape (3-Pack). Thus, I recommend visiting Home Depot and buy the tape if you plan to stay there so you will avoid a sleepless night. In addition, check the fan when visiting your room for the first time and request a new room if it makes noise.We never got to enjoy any of the amenities since we were so tired.

If you are looking for some peace and quiet this is the place. The staff(from all over the world) is there to take care of anything and everything you could ask. The chef is world class and the wine selection is phenomenal. The lodge has plentiful options for hiking, canoeing, stargazing, cooking, the list goes on. The rooms are spacious and perfectly annointed. It's a bit of a drive from Halifax airport but the second you pull in you will be happy you made the trip! Highly recommend for at least a night or two if you are in Nova Scotia.
