Moved To HI from the mainland and I wanted to start an account with a local Credit Union. I was unable to have both my wife AND I (it had to be just me with her on the account) therefore she is not an actual member and cannot use a lot of extra services that I can (i.e., notary, cashiers checks etc.), which seemed really stupid to me. In addition to this, I deposited my first paycheck and discovered that for the first month after you open your account they AUTOMATICALLY put a hold on the check for 9 BUISNESS DAYS. Basically, even though the check I deposited was a federal payroll check, I had to wait (including weekends) almost 2 weeks before I could access the money. This borders on criminally stupid... anyway... If you cancel the account after less than 3 months they also charge you $25 so looks like I will have to keep that 5 dollars in saving for a while before i can move onto a financial institution that has at least heard of customer service......
